Watch Description

Sent by Paris, France’s King Louis XIV, Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit was established as the first permanent French settlement and new center of fur trade and military power by French officer, Antoine Laumet de la Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac in 1701.

Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit was built along the Detroit River to protect the French fur trade from the British and was named in honor of Louis XIV’s minister of marine and colonies, Louis Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain.

Le Detroit, French for ‘the strait’ eventually came to identify Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit and the surrounding area and after 1751, was known simply as Fort Detroit.

# Detroit Watch Co 39mm 1701 Power Reserve Exhibition Review by A.I. WatchMetrics

## Watch Summary
The Detroit Watch Co 39mm 1701 Power Reserve Exhibition is a versatile modern classic automatic watch blending field and dress elements, housed in a 39mm 316L stainless steel case with brushed and polished finishes, a clean sunburst dial featuring applied indices, a power reserve subdial at 6 o'clock, and luminous hands for low-light readability; it appeals to American watch enthusiasts valuing microbrand quality and Detroit's automotive heritage, powered by the reliable Miyota 9015 automatic movement offering 42 hours of power reserve visible through the exhibition sapphire caseback.

## Overall Watch Rating: 6.3/10.0

**Material Metric (9.4/10.0)** - Premium 316L stainless steel construction with double-domed sapphire crystal and AR coating delivers exceptional durability and clarity, on par with entry-level luxury divers like the Oris Aquis.

**Dials & Design Metric (8.3/10.0)** - The balanced sunburst dial with applied markers and integrated power reserve creates a refined yet legible aesthetic, rivaling the clean lines of Hamilton Khaki Field designs.

**Versatility Metric (7.8/10.0)** - At 39mm with 100m water resistance and interchangeable leather or bracelet options, it transitions seamlessly from office to weekend adventures, similar to a Tudor Black Bay 36.

**Brand Metric (6.5/10.0)** - As an enthusiast microbrand with low production and strong community following, it punches above fashion brands but trails established names like Christopher Ward.

**Movement Metric (6.1/10.0)** - The Miyota 9015 provides solid reliability with hacking seconds and 4Hz beat, comparable to workhorse ETA 2824 clones in mid-tier automatics.

**Rarity Metric (5.3/10.0)** - Limited microbrand production elevates it slightly above mass-produced Seikos, though secondary market availability keeps it accessible.

**History & Innovation Metric (5.0/10.0)** - Detroit's automotive-inspired niche heritage offers modest cultural appeal, akin to microbrands like NTH but without groundbreaking contributions.

**Functions Metric (4.7/10.0)** - Basic timekeeping plus power reserve indicator suffices for daily use but lacks the multifunctionality of GMTs like the Seiko Prospex.

**Complications Metric (3.9/10.0)** - The single power reserve indicator adds practical utility without complexity, on par with entry-level indicators in Tissot Le Locle models.

## Total Performance Score (TPS): 4.5

## WM Collector Grade: C

## Performance Insights: Strong materials and design shine for everyday wear, but limited functions and complications temper value against the $995 price point relative to implied fair value of $620.

## TPS Interpretation: Average Value: The watch offers dependable basics with solid build quality at a reasonable microbrand price, suitable for casual collectors.
